The South African Police Service (SAPS) family on Thursday, 09 October 2025, gathered at the Ranch Protea Hotel Golf Club in Polokwane for the inaugural SAPS Limpopo Provincial Commissioner’s Golf Charity Event — a day that transcended sport and became a powerful symbol of unity, compassion, and purpose.
The event, held under the leadership of Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, was graced by Acting Deputy National Commissioner for Support Services Lieutenant General Nkhuoa, Acting Deputy National Commissioner: Crime Detection Lieutenant General Senthumule, Divisional Commissioner for Visible Policing and Operations Lieutenant General Mamotheti, Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, and Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola. Their presence, alongside other senior SAPS management, underscored the collective resolve to support the families of fallen heroes.
From the first tee-off to the final round of applause, the day reflected the enduring SAPS spirit — one of purpose, unity, and service.
Prior to the prize-giving ceremony, Lieutenant General Nkhuoa, who also serves as Acting Chairperson of the SAPS Education Trust (SAPSET), reaffirmed that every rand raised would directly fund the education of children of fallen officers — covering tuition, uniforms, and learning materials. She highlighted that since inception, SAPSET has raised over R21 million, supporting more than 1,700 children, with 54 graduates. She concluded with an appeal for continued partnership as SAPSET targets R15 million by January 2026.
An emotional moment came when South African Police Service Educational Trust (SAPSET) beneficiary Mr. Benny Mathoko shared his inspiring journey, crediting SAPSET for enabling him to graduate in Civil Engineering. His testimony reminded guests that SAPSET is not only about financial aid — it restores dignity and nurtures dreams.
The spirit of giving reached new heights when
sponsors made generous pledges to support SAPSET. The highligh was the auction of a golf ball signed by Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, which was sold for R20,000, symbolising unity and generosity.
In her remarks, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed heartfelt appreciation to all players, sponsors, and SAPS members for their generosity and compassion.

“Today is about more than golf — it’s about giving hope and honouring the legacy of our fallen heroes. Through SAPSET, we ensure that the children of those who paid the ultimate price in service are not left behind.”
She further highlighted the SAPS Back 2 School Campaign, in partnership with the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, which continues to make a difference in schools across Limpopo. Together with General Mthombeni, they handed over projectors and laptops to one of the adopted schools in the Capricorn District as part of efforts to empower learners through technology.
